Who should change plans when wedding guests and the getting-ready group are using the same house?

Weddings category photographWeddings

Mum said, "Your cousins will have that room on Saturday morning." It was the room where I had planned to get dressed with five friends.

She has offered eight relatives beds at my parents' house for the wedding weekend. I had assumed the house would be our getting-ready base because she'd said we could use it months ago. She thought I would sleep there on Friday, then go to a hotel to get ready. Neither of us described the full plan.

The relatives have accepted the stay but haven't booked alternative accommodation. My hotel has quoted $190 for a room we could use from Friday night. I can pay it, though it would change the morning I'd pictured at home.

I want to sort this out before the guests arrive with bags. Is moving my preparations the reasonable compromise, or should we first revisit how many people Mum has offered to host?

Put the two plans on one timeline with your parents: who is sleeping where and which space each activity needs. You may find a workable arrangement, but only once "use the house" becomes more specific than it has been.

The relatives accepted an offer; they didn't decide to displace your preparations. Keep them out of the first conversation while you and your parents work out what was promised.
