How do I give real furniture feedback when my partner is auditioning the chairs?

Funny category photographFunny

'Tell us why you deserve the reading corner,' my partner said to a wooden armchair.

He answered in a deep voice: 'Leadership. Excellent legs.' I laughed. He named it the Captain and said we'd found our chair.

We were choosing between that one and a plain padded chair. He liked the Captain's shape; I preferred sitting in the padded one. But when he asked which audition I'd enjoyed, I said the Captain's. Now he thinks I agreed to buy it.

We left without ordering because he wanted to check the space at home. Tonight he has drawn the Captain in the corner and sent me a speech from its imaginary references. The joke is fun. The seat wasn't comfortable for me.

How do I explain that I voted for his chair voice, not the actual chair, while there is still time to choose something we both want to sit in?

Tell him the distinction in your own terms: 'The Captain won the audition. I preferred sitting in the padded chair, and I don't want us to order the wooden one yet.' That corrects the apparent agreement while it can still change the choice.
