Headphones fixed the music, but my rhythm-game tapping still wakes my housemate

Gaming category photographGaming

I turned the music down and bought headphones after my housemate asked for quieter evenings. Last night she knocked on my door and tapped her desk in imitation of my controller. "It's that sound," she said.

I'd treated the complaint as a volume problem. Her room is beside mine, and the repeated tapping is what she hears while trying to sleep. I practice most nights because I enjoy finally getting through a difficult song; she starts work early and wants the flat quiet before I usually finish.

She suggested I only practice on weekends. That would remove most of the short sessions I look forward to, and I reacted as if she'd asked me to stop gaming altogether. She didn't. She asked not to hear the same burst of taps at 11:30.

How would you agree on practice times or a different spot in the flat without promising that another gadget will silence it? I want to try a workable arrangement, not spend more money answering the wrong complaint again.

The desk imitation gave you useful information: it is the tapping, not the song. Acknowledge that you solved the sound you noticed while leaving the one she reported. That makes a new arrangement easier than defending the headphones purchase.

Could you practice earlier on some weekdays, or in another suitable room while she listens from hers? Test the actual sound before promising a solution. A different location may help, but her ability to sleep is what the test needs to assess.
