I stayed quiet at work and now the wrong person may get blamed

I was trying to be normal at work. Very bold of me, apparently. What happened was a mistake was hidden until it became someone else's emergency.

I was trying to be normal at work. Very bold of me, apparently.

What happened was a mistake was hidden until it became someone else's emergency. I could have smiled through it, but then my name would be attached to the wrong version. The whole mess started on a late customer escalation, and it involved a junior teammate and an exhausted client. Hold music leaked from someone's laptop. I wanted to be professional and failed in my head immediately.

Solving the issue without sacrificing the junior person. That was what I told myself, anyway. My earlier shortcut caused part of the failure. The incident review includes both our names. Now the next meeting is awkward, and payroll is already asking who approved the hours. I muted myself to sigh.

Maybe I am using this to justify myself. I become protective when blame resembles my early career.
