Our usual picnic spot doesn't work for my cousin's wheelchair. How do I persuade the family to move it?

Family category photographFamily

“We'll carry the chair down if we have to,” my brother said when I asked about moving our family picnic.

My cousin Anil uses a wheelchair. Last year he stayed near the car park because the tables we chose were beyond a gravel slope. He has told me he can't use that route and won't agree to being carried. This year I volunteered to organise the picnic and promised I would check the location with him.

My brother wants the same creekside tables because the children love that area. He has already told them we are going back. Anil suggested another park where he has used the paved route and toilets. It would add about twenty minutes to my brother's drive and doesn't have the same creek.

When I proposed it in the family chat, an aunt said Anil could join us for cake in the car park afterwards. That sounded like two different gatherings, and I didn't know how to say so without accusing everyone of deliberately excluding him.

Should I settle on the other park as organiser, or keep discussing alternatives? I want a place Anil can actually join us, not another promise that somebody will sort it out on the day.

Anil has already given you the relevant information about the old route and declined being carried. Take those answers out of the family vote. You can say, “We need a spot he can use for the picnic itself. The old tables don't meet that requirement, so we're choosing another location.”
