Our basketball captain posted my missed layups as a joke. Can I ask for the clip to come down?

Sports category photographSports

The team clip opened with me missing two layups, then cut to everyone laughing on the bench. The caption was "Finishing clinic needed." I messaged our captain: "Can you take that part out?" He replied, "We're laughing at all of us. Don't make it awkward."

We're an adult recreational basketball team. At training, I knew a teammate was filming so we could look at our positioning afterwards. I hadn't discussed a public highlights post. The rest of the clip includes a teammate's best plays, and he's already shared it with people who might invite him onto another team.

I laughed when I missed the shots in the gym. Seeing my face attached to the joke on a public team page feels different. I don't want to remove somebody else's useful highlights or make the person who edited it start again. I would be fine with an ordinary game clip where I'm visible; it's this edit that bothers me.

Should I ask for the whole post to be removed until there's a replacement, request a crop just around my section, or have a conversation about future filming and leave this one alone? How do I make the request specific without needing the captain to agree that the joke was mean?

You don't need to settle whether the captain intended to be mean. Try, "I was comfortable with training footage, but I don't want this public joke about my misses. Please remove that section and replace the post." That names the edit you're objecting to. It also leaves room for the other teammate's highlights to stay in a version you can accept.

The editor's effort deserves acknowledgement, but it doesn't mean the finished joke must stay up. You could offer to identify the exact seconds to remove rather than requesting a completely new montage. Ask for it to come down while they make the replacement, since leaving the disputed version visible makes "we'll fix it later" quite an open-ended answer.

A replacement could retain your teammate's best plays and remove the joke about you. Ask whether his plays can be posted separately or kept in the replacement. A specific edit could protect what he values. Avoid promising that cropping will solve everything before checking whether the caption or bench reaction still points clearly at you.
