I rolled back our Minecraft Realm to save my build and erased my friends' progress
Gaming"Where did the station go?" was the first message after I restored an older backup of our Minecraft Java Realm. I had been looking at the repaired roof of my library. I hadn't gone over to check the railway.
A friend accidentally spread fire through the library while we were playing. I'd spent three evenings on it and panicked at how much was gone. As the Realm owner, I restored a backup from forty minutes earlier. I said, "I've fixed it," before telling anyone which save I'd chosen.
The library came back. So did the world as it had been forty minutes earlier: two friends lost their new station platforms, and another lost the items he'd gathered on a trip. [Minecraft's help page explains that restoring a Java Realm backup reverts progress, including builds and items](https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/20687555493133-How-to-Create-a-Backup-of-a-Minecraft-Java-Edition-Realm). That wasn't a repair limited to my roof.
I pay for the Realm, but they have put just as much time into the world. I've offered to rebuild the station with them. One friend says that's beside the point because I might erase it again whenever my own project gets damaged.
What would repair the trust here? I can apologize for making the decision alone, but we still need an agreement for the next accident that doesn't turn every broken wall into a group vote.
