I leave one biscuit so I can say I didn't finish the shared packet

Confessions category photographConfessions

There is one biscuit in the office tin. I have left it there for three days.

Our small team takes turns replacing the shared snacks. I ate most of this packet, and when someone said the tin was empty, I pointed out that it wasn't. Technically, I was defending a biscuit. Really, I was avoiding my turn to bring another packet.

There isn't a grand dispute about office spending. I can replace it. I'm embarrassed by how quickly I became the person making a literal argument about a tin I knew wasn't usefully stocked.

Would you acknowledge the remark when bringing the replacement, or simply restock and retire the one-biscuit defence? It feels too petty for a confession and too deliberate to call an oversight.

That last biscuit has been assigned an impressive administrative role. Replacing the packet is the immediate repair; you can retire its duties without calling a team meeting about the contents of the tin.

If you directly contradicted a colleague, a small acknowledgement would fit: 'You were right that it needed replacing. I was being picky about the last one.' The apology can be as ordinary as the remark was annoying.
