AITA for correcting my coworker about who finished our presentation during a team lunch?
AITA"I pulled the whole deck together in the end," my coworker Owen said when our manager asked how Friday's presentation had gone.
I said, "You organized the first draft. I spent Thursday evening rebuilding the examples and making the final version."
The table went quiet. Owen said he hadn't meant that he did every slide himself. Our manager thanked us both, then changed the subject.
We were assigned the presentation together. Owen arranged the outline and collected material from three other teams. I was supposed to check the examples. When I opened the file on Thursday afternoon, several examples still had placeholder numbers and two sections repeated each other. Owen was leaving for an evening course he'd paid for, so I told him I'd sort it out.
I finished at 10:40 that night. He delivered the presentation the next morning because he is much more comfortable speaking, and I answered the detailed questions afterward. We hadn't talked about how to describe who did what.
The thing I'm less proud of is that I was already annoyed before lunch. I saw him chatting with our manager and assumed he was taking credit, though I couldn't hear them. When he used "I" at the table, I was ready with my correction.
Owen now says I made it sound as though he had handed me nothing useful, which isn't true. I wanted my evening's work acknowledged, but I also picked a moment with an audience and listed only the rescue work. AITA for correcting him there?
