AITA for putting my puzzle back on the dining table while my roommate's parents were visiting?

"You said six-thirty," my roommate Lena said when I pulled my puzzle mat out from under the sofa.

I had. Our dining table is usually where I work on a 1,000-piece puzzle, and Lena normally doesn't mind. For her parents' Friday visit, I promised to clear it by 6:30. I left work late, missed a bus and got home at 6:55. I didn't message her because I kept thinking I was nearly there.

Lena had rolled up the mat and put it under the sofa. When I opened it, a corner I'd spent two evenings building had come apart. I said she should have put it flat on my bed. She said she wasn't going into my room, and she had a dinner to get on the table.

Her parents arrived while we were arguing. I unrolled the mat on the table and started fixing the corner. When Lena asked me to move it, I said, "You packed it up. You can wait until I've sorted it."

Our small table seats four when it's clear. With the mat taking up half of it, her dad ate on the sofa. I stayed at the table for about twenty minutes, then put the puzzle away and went to my room without eating.

Lena says I used a damaged puzzle to punish her in front of people who had done nothing to me. I think she could have handled something she knew I cared about more carefully. But she had given me a deadline, and I made her deal with my missed promise. Was putting it back out an understandable reaction, or was I the asshole?

Your missed deadline put Lena in a position where she had to move the puzzle herself. Then you made her dad absorb the consequence by eating on the sofa. The broken corner was frustrating, but restoring it during dinner didn't repair the part of the situation you caused.

Lena's choice not to enter your bedroom also seems reasonable. 'Put it on my bed' was a solution you thought of after arriving, not an instruction she had before dinner. She could have been more careful and still have had no obvious perfect place to put a large puzzle.
