Where do all the decorative bed pillows go when you're a guest?

Funny category photographFunny

'There's room for your case in the wardrobe,' my friend said. The wardrobe was behind a pyramid I had just built from her guest-bed pillows.

There are eleven decorative pillows and two ordinary sleeping ones. I moved the decorative ones to the chair, then realised the chair was where I wanted to sit. I moved them beside the wardrobe and immediately needed my clothes. My overnight bag is currently the least mobile object in the room.

My friend has made the room lovely. I don't want to announce that her hospitality requires a warehouse. I also don't know whether she expects the whole arrangement rebuilt each morning.

Is it reasonable to ask where she'd like the extras for the weekend, or should a guest quietly keep playing pillow chess?

Ask where she normally puts them when someone stays. That is a practical question about using the room, not a review of her decorating. 'The bed looks lovely; is there a usual place for these overnight?' gives her a chance to show you a space you haven't considered.

Don't assume rebuilding the display is part of the invitation. She may have arranged it for your arrival and expect you to make yourself comfortable afterwards. You can ask about mornings at the same time rather than spending two days complying with an imaginary pillow requirement.
