Can I wrap one present neatly after founding the Bad Wrapping Society?

Funny category photographFunny

'That bow looks dangerously competent,' my friend said.

Four of us call ourselves the Bad Wrapping Society. It started when I covered a parcel in newspaper and used so much tape that the recipient asked whether the present was inside a window. Now we deliberately wrap gifts badly for each other.

I'm wrapping a present for my mum. She likes tidy parcels and often keeps the ribbon. I chose plain paper and made a careful bow. My friend says the founder can't defect, and has offered a cereal box and a roll of bright tape.

Mum knows nothing about our society. I don't want her gift to become the prop that proves I'm still committed to a private joke. But I also don't want to act offended by a game I created.

Can I keep the awful wrapping for gifts within the group and give Mum the neat one without staging a formal resignation?

The recipient is the useful distinction. You four enjoy badly wrapped gifts for each other; Mum hasn't joined that agreement. Tell your friend, 'Society parcels stay inside the society. This one is for Mum, who likes a bow.' You can keep the group joke exactly where it works.
