Should I use a streaming month I accidentally renewed just to make the charge feel worthwhile?

Entertainment category photographEntertainment

The subscription receipt arrived before breakfast: another month had started. I'd signed up for a trial to watch one filmed concert, then forgotten to cancel. I knew it would renew; I hadn't put the date anywhere I'd see it.

I went into the catalogue looking for enough films to justify the month. An hour later I had a list of things I didn't especially want to watch. My sister said I might as well get my money's worth now.

I haven't checked whether the service will consider a refund or completed the cancellation steps yet. Those are the practical jobs. But even if the charge stands, I don't want a forgotten trial choosing several evenings for me.

How do I separate dealing with the renewal from deciding what entertainment I actually want? It feels wasteful to leave the month unused, and equally wasteful to fill it with viewing I picked only because I'd already paid.

Handle the next renewal before building a viewing plan. [FTC subscription guidance](https://consumer.ftc.gov/articles/getting-and-out-free-trials-auto-renewals-and-negative-option-subscriptions) advises following the provider's cancellation instructions, keeping records and checking statements afterward. Check the particular terms for when access ends; don't assume every service handles that the same way.

You can ask the provider about a refund without presenting an agreed renewal as an unauthorised charge. Explain that you forgot to cancel and ask what options apply. Don't plan around receiving money back until the provider actually confirms that outcome.
