Should I turn off the TV's motion setting if my partner prefers it?

Technology category photographTechnology

I changed the new TV's motion setting because films looked oddly smooth to me. My partner changed it back during a nature programme and said the movement was clearer.

Now we both pick up the remote as though correcting an error. Neither of us is reporting a broken television. We prefer different versions of the picture.

Would you agree different settings for films and nature programmes, if this model makes that easy, or choose one shared default? I spent more on the TV because I wanted us to enjoy watching together. We have found a new way to interrupt the opening scene.

Stop calling the other's preferred picture a mistake. Decide whether you want a shared default or an easy agreed change for different kinds of programme. The model's menu and your actual habits matter more than winning a universal argument about the setting.

Check whether this TV supports useful presets before promising a one-button compromise. A routine that requires five menu screens every evening may be less pleasant than either picture setting.

Try choosing the setting before the programme starts. Even if you still switch between preferences, both people can watch the first scene instead of inspecting it for evidence that the other person chose badly.
