Should I change a harsh series review after watching only its first episode?

Entertainment category photographEntertainment

I posted, 'Six hours of this would be six hours wasted,' after watching the first episode of a new drama. A forum member asked whether I'd seen the other five. I replied, 'One was enough.'

I disliked the dialogue and stopped because I didn't want to spend another evening on it. That opinion hasn't changed. But my post also called a character's secret unexplained, and someone said later episodes address it. I don't know whether they do, because I haven't watched them.

Now friends are sharing my review as a reason to skip the whole series. I don't want to turn this into six hours of homework just to earn the right to dislike an opening episode. I do want to correct the impression that I'd assessed all six.

Would a visible edit explaining what I watched be enough, or should I remove the review and write a narrower one?

Keep the reaction to the dialogue, and label it as a first-episode impression. Change 'unexplained' to 'not explained in the episode I watched' if that's accurate. That tells readers what you know without asking you to finish something you disliked.

The sharp line is probably why your friends shared it. A correction buried at the bottom may leave the strongest impression intact. Put the viewing limit beside the title or opening line, wherever readers first encounter your judgment.
