Can I pass on a TV box set my brother gave me for sentimental reasons?

Entertainment category photographEntertainment

My brother's birthday gift was twelve discs of the programme we used to watch after school. He'd found the edition with the old illustrated booklet inside.

I said I loved remembering those afternoons. He heard that as wanting the box set. I don't own a disc player, and when I mentioned that, he offered to bring his spare one over. Now the gift seems to require space for another machine as well as an evening of trying it together.

A friend collects the programme and would enjoy the booklet. I'd like to offer it to her, but my brother asks whether I've watched any yet whenever we speak. I don't want him to think I'm giving away our shared childhood.

The box has been on the same chair for a month. How do I separate keeping the memory from keeping every object associated with it?

He found the booklet, not just any copy of the show. Mention that care when you explain you don't want a player at home. You can value the thought and still be honest that the gift won't be used in the way he pictured.

Would you actually enjoy watching one episode at his place? If so, suggest that as a shared memory evening. It avoids filling your home with equipment, but don't offer it if you only want a polite way to postpone the box conversation.
