Our booked photographer is sending an associate. How do we decide whether we're comfortable?

Weddings category photographWeddings

Seven weeks before the wedding, our photographer emailed to say a scheduling conflict meant another member of his team would lead the day. The price would stay the same.

We chose him after meeting him and looking through complete weddings he'd photographed. The replacement's page has a dozen portraits, but we haven't met her or seen a whole wedding where she was the lead.

My partner likes the company's editing style and thinks the team will be similar. I liked how the original photographer spoke with my parents at our meeting. I don't know yet whether this change affects the parts we valued most.

What would you ask before giving an answer? I want to evaluate the person being proposed rather than either accepting because the date is close or rejecting because her name wasn't the one we started with.

Ask to meet the proposed lead and see complete weddings she led, if available. Those are the two missing pieces you identified. A collection of strong portraits doesn't answer everything about the coverage you chose.

Find out who would photograph, edit and communicate with you afterwards. Your partner's confidence in the editing may be relevant, but the announcement only tells you who will lead on the day.
