I’m still attending a weekly meeting for a project I handed over months ago

Career / Work category photographCareer / Work

My contribution to Tuesday’s meeting was, “Nothing from me,” followed by fifty minutes of listening.

I used to coordinate this project. A colleague took over four months ago, and she now handles the suppliers, schedule and decisions. I’m still on the recurring invitation because occasionally somebody asks where an old document came from.

I can usually answer those questions after the meeting. Meanwhile, I have another project whose planning call overlaps with the second half. I keep leaving one conversation early to join another late.

The project lead says it’s useful to have me there “just in case.” I don’t want to sound as though I’m refusing to help after the handover.

How would you propose leaving the regular meeting while remaining available for the history I actually know? What would make the change clear enough that I’m not simply absent next Tuesday?

Describe the overlap and propose a specific arrangement: the current coordinator attends throughout, and historical questions come to you afterward with the relevant document. If a particular agenda item needs you, they can invite you for that part. You’re offering a way to get your contribution without reserving the whole hour every week.
