How many pet-sitter updates are reasonable while we are travelling?

Travel category photographTravel

The message says the cat has eaten and the visit is finished. Zoe replies, “Could you send one more photo of where she's sitting now?”

Her sister Asha is waiting at the café door in Lisbon. This is their first trip together in years, and they have already stopped three times this morning so Zoe can check the pet camera or message the sitter.

Before leaving, Zoe agreed to two visit updates a day, with a photograph when the cat was visible. The updates have not reported a problem; Zoe is finding the separation harder than she expected. The sitter has answered the agreed updates but has not replied to the latest extra request.

What would be a reasonable reset for the rest of the week? Zoe wants reassurance that her cat is being cared for. Asha wants to walk somewhere without every quiet moment becoming another check on the sofa at home.

Return to what Zoe and the sitter actually agreed. If she now wants more contact, she can ask whether that is possible and what it would involve, rather than treat unanswered extra messages as a failure to do the original job.

Asha can be sympathetic and still say that the repeated stops are affecting their shared day. “Could we finish this coffee and then walk to the river without another routine check?” is more concrete than telling Zoe to relax or stop caring about the cat.
