How do we make our fridge museum say which food is actually shared?

Funny category photographFunny

My sister Maya opened the fridge and said, 'Who has interfered with the Forbidden Cheese?' I was standing beside her making a sandwich with it.

We share a flat and buy some food together. She has recently turned our fridge into a miniature museum. A tub of noodles is 'Untitled, mixed media'. The cheese had a handwritten card reading 'Forbidden Cheese, artist unknown'. Her birthday yoghurt was 'A Study in Self-Control'. The labels look good, and I made a tiny sign saying the vegetable drawer was closed for restoration.

I thought 'Forbidden' meant the cheese was especially tempting. She meant it was hers for a dish she wanted to make that evening. I offered to replace it, but she said I should have understood the sign. Earlier that week, she'd told me to help myself to a yoghurt with an equally dramatic title, so I hadn't treated the museum language as instructions.

We don't want separate shelves and a clipboard. Sharing groceries is convenient for us, and I like the labels. I also want to build a sandwich without interpreting a curator's intentions. Can I ask for a plain ownership line under each title, or should I just check with her every time something has a joke label?

A second line would fit the museum nicely: 'Collection: Maya. Please ask before eating.' Shared items could say 'Public collection: help yourself.' You can keep all the dramatic titles above that. The cheese misunderstanding came from treating a decorative title as a clear instruction when you two hadn't agreed on that meaning.
