How do we decline a guide's shopping stop without alleging a commission scam?

Travel category photographTravel

“We'll just say hello to my friend,” the guide says, stepping into a carpet showroom. Fifteen minutes later, a second carpet is being unrolled.

Three friends have booked a private half-day walk in Marrakech. They understood the plan to focus on the medina and a museum. They do not remember agreeing to a shopping stop. The guide knows the showroom staff, but the friends have no evidence about any payment arrangement.

Elliot whispers that they are being scammed. His sister, Fran, would rather ask to return to the walk than accuse anyone of taking a commission. Their third friend is genuinely interested in the carpets and wants to keep looking.

How would you reset the remaining hour? Fran wants to protect the time they booked without making an allegation from a familiar greeting, or letting the interested shopper silently decide the itinerary for all three.

“We aren't shopping today. Could we return to the route we discussed?” addresses what Fran knows. She does not need to establish a commission arrangement before saying the stop is not what she wants to spend the remaining hour doing.

Check what the actual agreed itinerary said. If shopping was included, they can still ask about shortening it, but should acknowledge that the guide did not necessarily spring an undisclosed stop on them. If it was not included, describe that difference specifically rather than calling the whole walk a scam.
