How do I join the pool day when I can't swim wearing my contact lenses?

Health category photographHealth

My friends have paid for an afternoon at a pool club. One said, "Keep your lenses in and don't open your eyes underwater." Without my lenses, I struggle to see the pool edge and people across the water.

[CDC advises removing contact lenses before swimming because water exposure can increase the risk of eye infection](https://www.cdc.gov/contact-lenses/about/healthy-habits-keeping-water-away-from-contact-lenses.html). I am not going to use the closed-eyes suggestion as a workaround.

I should have thought about this before paying my $28 share. I have glasses, but they do not solve how I would see while swimming. There is not much time to explore another suitable option with my eye-care provider.

Would you keep the booking and make it a day beside the pool, or ask about changing your place while there is still time? Either way, I want to tell the group my plan before everyone is already in the water.

Tell them now what you have decided about the lenses. Otherwise they may hear "I haven't figured out the swimming part" as an invitation to keep suggesting ways to wear them in the water.
