Can I bring a normal bag when my friends are competing to pack the smallest one?

Funny category photographFunny

'Cargo ship,' my friend said, looking at my ordinary weekend bag.

We are staying at another friend's house for two nights. In the group chat, somebody challenged us to arrive with the smallest possible bag. I replied that I would attempt 'pocket-based travel', mainly because the phrase pleased me.

I tried packing into a little zip case. It worked if I left out the book I want to read and a change of clothes I'd rather have. Meanwhile, one competitor has asked whether he can borrow a spare jumper from our host and use somebody else's bag space for a game.

There is no actual prize. I want to bring my normal bag and enjoy the weekend, but my friends say that withdrawing now ruins the challenge. Can I stay part of the trip without treating the amount I carry as a group achievement?

Tell them you've tried the zip case and don't want to travel that way: 'I'm bringing my weekend bag. Count me out of the smallest-bag contest, but I'm still very much coming.' That separates joining the trip from continuing a game you briefly encouraged.

Borrowed jumpers and game space show that a small bag can shift the packing to other people. It's fine if those people willingly agree, but the group should count that honestly when discussing its challenge. You don't need to accuse anyone of cheating to explain why you prefer carrying your own things.
