Can I ask my neighbour for a fixed fireworks window rather than 'sometime on Bonfire Night'?

Neighbours category photographNeighbours

“You'll hear them anyway—it's Bonfire Night,” my neighbour said when I asked what time he planned to set off his fireworks.

We live in England. He wants a small display on 5 November, and I am asking before he has finalised it. Last year I thought the bangs had finished, settled into a video call with my family, then hurried back to the window when another set started.

This year I would like a start time and an approximate finish, so I can plan around it. He says guests arrive when they arrive and reminds me that the [government's fireworks page](https://www.gov.uk/fireworks-the-law) gives a midnight cutoff for Bonfire Night rather than the usual 11 p.m. restriction. It also says to check local council rules.

I am not asking him to treat my family call as more important than his celebration. I am asking whether the fireworks part can have its own short window instead of being scattered through the evening.

How can I make that request without turning it into a debate about everything he is legally allowed to do? The legal cutoff tells us one limit; it doesn't tell me when to expect the first bang.

Ask for the display window separately from the gathering: “Could the fireworks be around eight to eight-thirty, even if people stay later?” That is a proposal he can accept or revise, rather than a demand that every guest arrive on schedule.
