The renewal portal rejects our insurance proof because the unit number has a hyphen
HousingThe lease-renewal portal shows a red banner: INSURANCE DOCUMENT DOES NOT MATCH RESIDENCE.
Our policy lists the unit as 4-B. The portal lists it as 4B. The street address, names and coverage dates otherwise match. Uploading the same document again produces the same rejection within seconds.
The management office confirmed by email that 4-B and 4B refer to our apartment. They also said the third-party portal must show an accepted status before renewal can be completed. The insurer says the address on the policy already matches its postal record and changing punctuation may require a formal endorsement.
We sent both sides one screenshot containing the mismatch and asked management for either a manual review path or the exact formatting the portal expects. We did not edit the policy document ourselves, create a second account or keep changing address fields until one happened to pass.
The deadline is in eight days. I am keeping every response in the same email thread because the most important fact may soon be that we raised the issue before the deadline, not whether a hyphen eventually wins.
My roommate has started calling it “the legally significant dash,” which is not a legal conclusion. It is, unfortunately, a very accurate description of our week.
