The delivery photo captured me reaching for the package like a porch creature

Funny/WTF category photographFunny/WTF

My phone notified me that a package had been delivered.

I was already near the front door, so I opened it immediately.

The delivery driver had placed the box on the porch and stepped back to take the confirmation photo. I did not see the phone. I saw only the package.

I leaned out, reached down and picked it up.

The driver lowered the phone.

We looked at each other.

“Sorry,” I said.

“I just need the photo,” he said.

I placed the box back on the porch.

That should have reset the scene. Instead, I remained crouched in the doorway because standing up felt like extra movement. The driver raised the phone again. I tried to lean out of the frame while still holding the door.

The resulting posture placed one hand, half my face and a bent knee beside the package.

The driver checked the image and laughed.

“You’re in it,” he said.

I stepped fully inside and closed the door almost all the way. He took another photo. Through the narrow gap, I watched him finish and walk toward the van.

Only then did I retrieve the box.

The delivery notification updated with the photo. It showed the package neatly on the porch and, at the edge, three fingers wrapped around the door like the opening scene of a very low-budget mystery.

The first photograph was not included, which was fortunate. I can only assume it documented a customer attempting to collect evidence before evidence collection was complete.

The driver did nothing wrong. I had responded to a delivery alert faster than the delivery process itself. A ten-second pause would have allowed him to take the photo and leave without directing a small porch reshoot.

What is the smooth etiquette when you open the door during a delivery photo? Step back, let the driver finish and collect the package afterward? And if you have already picked it up, is placing it back less strange than simply holding it while the driver records a handoff?
