Should we split up for a Vatican visit if one of us objects to the dress code?
Travel“I'm going to see paintings, not make a religious statement,” Calum says, putting on shorts before their Vatican Museums visit. His sister Lena points to the clothes she laid out the night before. “Then wear something that lets you get in.”
They are still at their Rome accommodation. Calum had agreed to the visit because Lena has wanted to go for years. Now he objects to changing what he wears. The [Museums' own visitor advice](https://www.museivaticani.va/content/museivaticani/en/organizza-visita/consigli-utili.html) excludes sleeveless garments and shorts above the knee, among other clothing restrictions. His planned outfit does not meet that published guidance.
Lena does not want to spend their visit arguing with entrance staff or miss it herself. Calum says she is choosing a rule over their day together. She says he can decline the visit, but she intends to go.
Would you make separate plans and meet afterwards? Lena wants his company, but she also wants to stop being made responsible for a choice he can still make before they leave the room.
