Should I let a friend reset my slow laptop before a deadline?

Technology category photographTechnology

“I can wipe it on Saturday and it’ll feel new,” my friend said. My Windows 11 laptop takes nearly six minutes to settle after sign-in, but once my drawing app is open, it handles my poster work reasonably well.

I have a print deadline on Monday. My friend means well and has fixed computers for relatives. I am tempted because every morning begins with a parade of little windows I do not remember asking for. But I have not checked which programs start automatically, and I would have to reinstall the drawing app and printer after a reset.

He says I am making a simple job complicated. I think he is offering the right sort of help at the wrong moment.

Would you investigate the startup delay first or take the clean start he is offering? I can live with six slow minutes until Monday; I cannot spend Sunday discovering what the poster depended on.

Monday's deadline is a good reason to postpone a reset whose recovery time you have not established. Thank your friend and suggest a diagnostic session after the posters are delivered. Accepting help does not require accepting its proposed date.

Windows lets you review startup applications in Settings and Task Manager; Task Manager also shows their startup impact. That provides a place to investigate those extra windows before making a larger change. It does not prove startup apps are the only cause.
