Should I confess that the statement vase I gave my friend fits one grape?
Funny'You remembered how tiny my flat is,' my friend said, unwrapping the vase.
I had not. I ordered it from a close-up photograph and missed the dimensions. The listing said six centimetres. In my head, the vase had been large enough for a bunch of flowers. In my hand, it looked ready to hold a grape upright.
It was a housewarming present. My friend put it beside her keys and said she liked the shape. I nearly claimed that I had chosen the small version deliberately, then said, 'I'm glad you like it.'
Now I can't tell whether explaining my mistake would spoil a gift that works for her or save me from pretending I made a thoughtful space-saving decision. Do I say something, offer a different present, or let the unexpectedly suitable grape monument stay?
