Our wedding speech credited one aunt for a group gift. How do we put it right?

Weddings category photographWeddings

"Glad Auntie Jo's mixer survived all our bank transfers," my cousin messaged the morning after the wedding. That was how I learnt eight people had bought it together.

We'd thanked Jo by name in our speech. She'd organised the collection and brought the box; the group card was still under its packing foam when we wrote our notes. She hadn't claimed to pay for it all.

A video of our thanks is now in the family chat. My partner wants to reply with all eight names and a big apology. I'm worried about embarrassing Jo. My cousin says, "No drama, just don't send all the thank-you cards to her."

The group card is now beside a stack of blank thank-you cards. I want everybody acknowledged without making Jo sound as though she took credit on purpose.

Write a proper thank-you to each contributor named on the card. Mention the shared gift and what you appreciate about it. They don't need an account of the packing foam in every message, but they do need to know you understand they were part of it.

Jo organised the collection and got the box to the venue. Thanking that work still makes sense. You can correct who contributed without retracting every nice thing you said about her or speculating about why she stayed quiet during a wedding speech.
