Our wedding caterer keeps answering milk-allergy questions with 'we have a vegan option'. What next?
Weddings"Your sister is sorted; there's a vegan dessert," the caterer said. My sister had asked about the main meal and how milk was handled in the kitchen.
We're choosing the menu for our wedding in England. My sister has a milk allergy and wants enough detail to decide what she is comfortable eating. She hasn't asked us to change everybody's food. I forwarded her questions with her permission, but the next reply was another photograph of the vegan menu.
Mum suggested asking her to bring a packed meal so we could stop going round in circles. My sister said, "I can arrange food if I need to. I'd like an answer first." We have paid a deposit; another caterer's quotation is £460 higher, and we haven't checked its allergy arrangements yet.
The [Food Standards Agency's consumer guidance](https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/food-allergy-and-intolerance-advice-for-consumers/food-allergy-and-intolerance-advice-for-consumers) says a vegan label shouldn't be assumed to mean food is suitable for someone with a milk allergy, and recommends asking about allergen cross-contamination.
I want one direct conversation with someone responsible for preparing the food before we decide whether to keep this caterer. How do I make that request firm while keeping my sister involved without making her run our catering booking?
