Our monthly game vote always picks a genre I dislike. Is a veto fair?

Gaming category photographGaming

For the fourth month running, our group voted for a survival game. I typed "sounds good" and started pricing it, then deleted the message. I don't like gathering wood and rebuilding after raids. I like these three friends.

The vote is fair in the narrow sense: three people want survival games and one doesn't. But each choice means a new purchase and several evenings of learning before I can tell whether this one is different. Last month I played twice, then became the person who only showed up in the chat.

I asked for a rotating pick. One friend said he'd try my puzzle choice; another said the point of voting was avoiding games most of us didn't want. They're worried a turn system would make three people endure my month, which is close to what I've been doing.

Is there a way to keep a shared game night without pretending every genre has equal appeal to everyone? I'd rather make a smaller honest commitment than buy another game and quietly disappear.

A unanimous choice isn't required for friendship, but four consecutive purchases deserve a pause. Tell them you won't buy this one until you've agreed what you actually want to join. That is a purchasing choice, not a demand that they abandon the survival game.
