Our modded game night keeps becoming tech support. Can I ask for a simpler setup?

Gaming category photographGaming

At 9:10, everyone else was building a base while I was still comparing version numbers with our host. At 9:45, he discovered I'd followed last week's installation message rather than the new one buried thirty replies down.

The mod pack is his hobby. He spends hours choosing additions, and I can see how proud he is when the new machines work. I'm grateful that he hosts. I'm also arriving after work for a game, then spending half the evening getting to the point where I can join.

The last two changes happened on the afternoon of our session. He says writing instructions takes even more unpaid time and that the rest of the group manages fine. One other player privately told me she also struggles, but I don't want to volunteer her complaint.

Would asking for a stable version for a few weeks be fair, or am I asking him to stop enjoying the part he contributes? I can do some setup in advance if I know what it is. I can't keep promising to be ready for instructions I haven't received.

A stable version for an agreed stretch is a concrete request. Name what it gives you: arriving ready to play rather than debugging while the others build. He can decide whether that fits the server he wants to run; you can decide whether weekly changes fit the evening you can offer.
