Our gaming night moved to my flat, and now everyone assumes I provide the whole evening

Gaming category photographGaming

"You've got the snacks sorted, right?" came the message while I was moving my dining table to fit four laptops. I had offered the room, not dinner.

Our group used to meet at a gaming café. When it got too expensive for us, I suggested using my flat once. That became every other Friday. I supply the extra extension leads, clear the space and do most of the cleanup. Last time I also bought pizzas because nobody had planned food.

I like having them over. I don't want to present an invoice for every crisp. But one friend now arrives with only his laptop and says hosting is my contribution, so food is part of it. Another has offered to bring a meal next time and doesn't seem to realize there's a disagreement.

How do I reset the arrangement without making people feel I've withdrawn the invitation? Friday is still happening; I just want the table, food and cleanup to belong to the group rather than to whoever owns the flat.

Use the friend who offered a meal as the beginning of a plan, rather than evidence in an argument. "Great, can we each take food or cleanup this Friday?" gives people jobs before they arrive. You can keep the invitation and change the assumptions attached to it.
