My co-op partner keeps pulling the shared camera ahead of me. How do we agree on a pace?

Gaming category photographGaming

I was halfway across the moving platforms when the camera followed my sister to the next doorway. My character disappeared off the edge, and we restarted. "You have to keep up," she said.

We're playing a two-player platform game on one screen. She enjoys finding the quickest route; I want to check the side passages and learn the jumps. I can accept missing some collectibles. What frustrates me is losing a life because we effectively have two different finish lines.

She says waiting at every ledge breaks the rhythm, and I can see that. I also stopped to inspect a hidden alcove without telling her, so she thought I was beside her when she moved on. We both contributed to that restart.

Would it help to agree on a signal before either player leaves the screen, or are we trying to combine a fast run and an exploration run that need separate sessions? I want to play with her without becoming cargo attached to the camera.

The camera followed one player, but neither of you announced the next move. A short "ready for the door?" or "checking this alcove" could prevent that exact failure. Try it in one level before deciding your preferred speeds make the entire game impossible together.

Waiting at every ledge could become tedious for her. You might choose a few places to explore and pass the others on this run. That would be a real concession from you; her part would be staying together while you take the agreed detours.

Your sister's quick route and your careful route both sound like ways to enjoy the game. The problem is that the screen currently lets one preference decide when the other person's turn ends. A restart doesn't tell you whose style is correct.
