I stopped a VR game because I felt sick. How do I decline another try without spoiling the visit?

Gaming category photographGaming

I took the headset off after a few minutes and said I felt queasy. My friend offered a faster game, then said I needed to stay in longer to get used to it. I sat down instead.

He had bought a Meta Quest and invited me over to show it off. I was excited too. But once I felt unwell, proving I could enjoy the next game wasn't the evening I wanted. [Meta's safety guidance says to stop use with discomfort or unusual symptoms, and to seek medical advice if symptoms are serious or persist](https://www.meta.com/quest/safety-center/). I wasn't going to push through for his demonstration.

The discomfort passed, and we watched the game on the television while he played. He kept calling that the "boring version" and promising a gentler experience for next Saturday.

How do I tell him I want to come over but don't want another headset session on that visit? I can be happy about his new hobby without making my tolerance of it the test of whether I support him.

You've already found an activity that lets you share his excitement: watching while he plays. Calling it the boring version undermines a perfectly usable evening. Tell him before Saturday that you want the company and the television view, with no headset trial attached.
