How should I talk about a successful retake when the average grade still makes me feel I haven't improved?

Education category photographEducation

My tutor wrote 86 on the retake, then entered 70 in the gradebook. The original mark was 54, and the module averages the two attempts.

That rule was on the course sheet before either test. I understand the calculation. What I can't shake is the feeling that 70 means I am still barely better at the material, even after correcting the mistakes from the first paper.

I want to ask for useful feedback without turning the meeting into a request to erase the 54. Does the retake show that I now understand the topics, or only that I could answer that second set of questions? I've been staring at the average when I should probably be looking at the two papers.

The average tells you how the module combines attempts; it isn't a complete description of what you can do today. The two papers and the tutor's feedback are better places to investigate your specific progress.
