Do I need to prove hot flushes are severe before asking about menopause care?

Health category photographHealth

During a client call I stood up to open the window and forgot the question I had been answering. Later, Mum said, "We all went through it. Get a little fan."

I am 47. My periods have become less predictable, and I have been having sudden hot spells and broken nights. I have not had an assessment. Mum means to reassure me, but her answer makes booking an appointment feel like declaring an ordinary part of life a crisis.

I am not asking the internet to diagnose me or choose hormones. I want to describe what is happening and understand what help might suit me.

Would you take a few notes about the symptoms and their effect on work, or is that making too much of it? The fan can stay on my desk; I would like the conversation to continue past the fan.

The note can be ordinary: what happens, roughly when, any changes to periods and how it affects your day. It is information for an assessment, not evidence you must gather to win a severity contest.
