Do I need to admit the octopus on our mini-golf card covered a score?

Funny category photographFunny

'You won by two,' Leon said, adding the numbers on our mini-golf card.

Where my score for the fifth hole should have been, there was an octopus wearing sunglasses. I had drawn it while waiting for the next group to move on. Leon treated the empty number box as nothing to add.

I think I took six attempts on that hole. It might have been seven. I meant to write it after finishing the octopus and then forgot. The illustration is excellent; the record is less excellent.

There was no prize, but Leon has sent the card to our friends as proof that I finally beat him. I replied with a squid emoji before noticing the missing number. Now he is proposing a rematch.

Should I correct the result even though I can't reconstruct the exact score, or simply make sure the next card contains fewer sea creatures?

Correct what you do know: the fifth-hole number is missing, and Leon's total left it out. You don't need a perfect replacement score before saying the card doesn't support the announced result. Explain that you forgot while drawing the octopus.

You can keep the picture and drop the victory claim. The card has become a funny souvenir with an incomplete score. Saying that in the same chat would repair the impression you reinforced with the emoji without asking everyone to take part in a long recount.

Ask Leon whether he remembers the fifth hole before choosing six or seven. If neither of you can reconstruct it, leave this result uncertain and agree to record the next round clearly. A remembered number is useful; a number chosen to make the conversation convenient isn't.
