Can our hallway lose some googly eyes without losing the household joke?

Funny category photographFunny

'Your grandmother looks delighted,' my partner said.

He had put googly eyes on the glass over her photograph.

I started this by adding eyes to the vacuum cleaner. For three days we laughed every time it appeared. My partner then gave eyes to the coat hooks, the hallway mirror and several framed pictures. The flat now looks as though it has questions about our movements.

I like the vacuum face. I don't like the changed family photographs, especially the one I pass on the way out each morning. He says the eyes are temporary and offered to take that pair down, but thinks I'm being inconsistent because I supplied the first set.

Can I ask for the photographs and mirror to stay clear while keeping one silly object, or does a shared decorating joke need both of us to enjoy the whole expanding cast?

He has offered to remove the eyes from the photograph, so accept that offer and explain the broader preference: 'I like them on the vacuum, but I want the pictures and mirror left clear.' You can like one placement without consenting to every surface in the flat.

The grandmother photograph has a personal meaning that the vacuum doesn't. Tell him that difference instead of trying to prove which pair of eyes is funniest. He may have treated the whole hallway as one joke because you supplied the first set; now you can describe where it stops working for you.
