Can I introduce my neighbour's cleaning business without recommending work I haven't used?

Neighbours category photographNeighbours

My neighbour sent me a message to forward: “Recommended by your neighbours—reliable, thorough cleaning.”

She has started a cleaning business and asked if I would share her number with two households I know. I was happy to make an introduction. I have never hired her, and I don't know those things about her work.

When I said I would change the wording, she replied, “They trust you. Otherwise it's just another advert.” That is exactly why I am hesitant. She is friendly and keeps her own home beautifully, but I don't want those impressions to become a customer recommendation.

I suggested, “Our neighbour is taking cleaning bookings; here's her contact if you'd like to ask about the service.” She thinks it sounds as though I am carefully distancing myself from her.

Would it be fair to send that neutral introduction, or should I decline to forward anything until I can honestly recommend the work? I want to help her get a chance, not supply a testimonial she hasn't yet earned from me.

Your proposed introduction is useful: it connects a local service with people who may want to enquire. It doesn't become unkind merely because it stops short of the reliability claim she wrote for you.

Her own tidy home is something you've seen. It isn't the same experience as hiring her to clean another home, on a schedule, for an agreed price. Keep those different observations from being merged into one endorsement.
