AITA for using our quiz prize for a date after my teammates left before the final round?
AITA"Why is my quiz prize paying for your date?" my friend Sam asked after I mentioned where I'd had dinner.
Four of us entered a pub quiz as a team. Two friends left before the last round to catch their bus. Sam left a little later because he had an early shift. I stayed, answered the final questions and collected the prize: a $100 restaurant voucher.
We'd all contributed answers during the earlier rounds. Sam had identified a tune none of the rest of us knew. I answered several questions at the end, and we won by one point.
Nobody had discussed what we'd do with a prize. When I got the voucher, I thought being the person who stayed made it reasonable for me to use it. I took my partner to dinner the next weekend. I didn't tell the team first.
Sam says leaving early didn't erase the answers he'd given and that he expected us to arrange a meal together, even if it took a few weeks. I said we'd never agreed to that. He said we'd also never agreed I could turn a team win into a date.
I enjoyed the dinner, and I was pleased to be the person who carried us through the final round. I'm less sure those are reasons the voucher should have been mine alone. AITA?
