AITA for refusing to review my friend's café when I haven't eaten there?
AITA"Just put five stars and say the breakfast is lovely," my friend Priya said. "You know how much work I've put into it."
Her café opened ten days ago. I've been away for work and haven't visited. Months earlier, I helped her choose a logo and listened while she worked out the menu. I want it to succeed.
She sent me the link to its Google Maps listing and asked for a review. I said I would share her opening announcement with friends, but I couldn't describe a breakfast I hadn't had. She said a short review was a smaller favor than the evenings I'd already spent helping her.
I sent a voice note saying, "I'm not going to make up a breakfast." That was sharper than my first answer. She replied that I made her sound dishonest when she was anxious about getting the business started.
I offered to come in when I'm back, without promising a rating. She said I was treating her like a stranger who had to earn my support.
I don't think friendship gives me the experience I'd be claiming in that review. But I can hear how my voice note turned her request into a judgment about her, when I could have kept saying no. AITA for refusing it that way?
