AITA for drafting a dating profile for my sister and showing it at dinner?

AITA category photographAITA

"That's not how I'd describe myself," my sister said when I read out the introduction I'd written for her.

A week earlier, she'd mentioned she might try dating again. She's thirty-one and hadn't asked me to help. I made a document with a few photos from family outings and a short profile, intending it as encouragement. I didn't create an account or post it anywhere.

At Sunday dinner, Mum asked what I'd been working on. I said I'd made my sister a dating profile and started reading it aloud. The introduction called her adventurous and said she loved hiking. She likes a short walk with a café at the end, which the family found funny.

She asked me to stop. I did, but then said, "It's only a draft. You can change anything." She said the problem was that everyone was discussing how she should present herself before she'd decided whether she wanted a profile at all.

Mum thinks she could have appreciated the effort and corrected the details privately. My sister wants me to delete the document and stop bringing her dating life into family conversation.

I have deleted it. I'm still embarrassed that something I meant as a confidence boost made her feel like a project. AITA for thinking a draft was harmless because nothing had gone online?

Not publishing it limits what happened, but the dinner was still an audience she hadn't chosen. She mentioned possibly dating; she didn't invite a family discussion of her photos and personality.

The hiking line shows why control of the description mattered. It wasn't simply polishing words she'd supplied. You were choosing a version of her that sounded appealing to you, and everyone then laughed at the mismatch.
