A poll card went to my old address after I moved. What do I need to check?

Politics category photographPolitics

My former housemate sent a photograph of a poll card with my name on it. "You're sorted," she wrote. My dad then offered to drive me back to the old neighbourhood on polling day.

I moved within England and updated several accounts, but I can't find a confirmation that I updated my electoral registration. The photographed card has an address I no longer live at. I haven't booked anything around the lift yet.

I don't want to assume the card settles where I should vote, and I don't want to make a second assumption about whether a new registration can take effect for the election concerned. What should I ask the electoral registration office so that I'm checking my actual position, rather than collecting reassuring guesses from the family chat?

Ask the office to confirm your registration details and explain the position for the particular election and move date. [GOV.UK says](https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote) an address change is updated by registering again, and that the electoral registration office can check whether you're registered. The old card photograph doesn't establish that you completed that change. Check the applicable deadline rather than assuming an application now will take effect in time.

Your dad's lift is generous, but it should follow the confirmed voting arrangement. Tell him you're checking the address before agreeing where to travel. That makes the pause about getting the details right, not rejecting his help.
