AITA for refusing a marketplace refund after the desk would not fit upstairs?
AITAI sold a solid-wood desk online and listed every measurement. The buyer, Noah, inspected it in my driveway and paid cash.
An hour later he messaged that the desk would not turn on his apartment stairs. He asked me to take it back because movers were charging by the hour.
I refused. I had already removed the listing and used the money to pay a bill. Noah left the desk temporarily in his building lobby, where management threatened a removal fee.
He says measurements on a listing are not the same as warning that a desk cannot be disassembled. I had written “one piece” but did not mention the narrow staircase issue because I did not know his building.
He offered to pay me $50 for the inconvenience of reversing the sale. I still declined because I did not want the heavy desk back.
The item matched the description. I also watched a solvable mistake become much more expensive because final sale was easier for me than mercy.
