A resident has assigned apartment numbers to every shelf in our shared storage room. Does initiative create authority?

Neighbours category photographNeighbours

Printed apartment numbers appeared on every shelf in our shared storage room. One resident measured the units, divided the space equally and moved unmarked boxes onto the floor.

The allocation looks orderly and may be fair by one measure. Residents were not consulted, and some need tall space while others store almost nothing. Equal shelf width does not automatically match actual needs or existing agreements.

The organizer says somebody had to solve the clutter. Initiative can produce a useful proposal without giving the proposer authority to move belongings or finalize assignments.

I want the moved boxes returned safely, new movement paused and management to approve a transparent allocation after residents describe needs. The labels can remain as a draft map, not a settled entitlement.

Would you undo the system, refine it through a meeting or ask management to start over? How should communities preserve useful organizing work without rewarding self-appointed control?

Treat the labels as a proposal and pause further movement until management approves an allocation.

Inventory shelf shapes and resident needs without opening or judging the contents of boxes.
