Would a sweetheart table make our divorced parents feel pushed aside?

Weddings category photographWeddings

Mum looked at the eight-person head-table plan and asked, "Could I sit with my sisters instead?" I had put her beside her partner, opposite Dad and his partner.

The eight seats also include us and my partner's parents. Nobody has threatened an argument. Mum just doesn't want to spend the whole meal making polite conversation with her ex across the flowers.

My partner thinks moving to a table for two would make the parents look excluded. I think giving each household a table with people they enjoy might be kinder than asking everybody to demonstrate how well they get on.

The plan isn't printed. The only person who has actually asked to move is Mum; I'm the one turning it into a decision about where all the parents belong.

Your last sentence is the useful check. Ask the other parents what they'd enjoy before solving a problem for them. Some may like the head table and some may be relieved to sit elsewhere.
