The restaurant menu is on a QR code and my phone is dead. How much help is reasonable to ask for?

Food category photographFood

The server pointed to the square on the table. "Scan that for the menu." My phone had run out of charge on the way there, and my friend's screen was too small for me to read comfortably across the table.

I asked about a printed menu. The server said they didn't have one handy and began listing dishes from memory. I couldn't keep track of the choices or prices. My friend suggested picking something quickly so we didn't hold things up.

I didn't want a particular dish recommended to me; I wanted to see enough of the menu to choose. Would you ask the server to bring a device, request a few options with their prices, or leave and find somewhere easier? I'm not making a claim about what the restaurant is legally required to provide. I want an ordinary way to order dinner without guessing.

Say what you need rather than repeating the phone problem: 'Could I see the choices and prices in a form I can read?' The restaurant may have a printed copy or another workable option. Ask what's available without assuming the server can produce equipment they don't have.

Your friend's wish to get on with dinner is understandable, but 'pick quickly' doesn't supply the missing information. Could they lend you their phone to hold and read yourself for a few minutes, rather than showing it from across the table?
