Should I turn off Focus because my brother missed a pickup update?

Technology category photographTechnology

“I sent it twice,” my brother said when I arrived at the station's wrong exit. I had put my iPhone in a Focus while finishing an assignment and forgotten to turn it off before leaving. He spent fifteen minutes waiting across the road.

He now wants me to stop using Focus on days we have plans. I use it because the family chat can fill with messages while I am working. It was my oversight, but giving up the setting entirely feels like a large response to one bad pickup.

Could I make a version that allows his calls while quieting the chat, and check it with him before our next trip? Or is the better fix simply setting an end time and sending a clear “I'm leaving” message? I do not want another settings discussion to distract from the waiting I caused.

Begin with the fifteen-minute wait: apologise and agree how the next pickup will work. You can discuss keeping Focus after acknowledging that you forgot it was on. Otherwise the useful settings conversation may sound like a defence of making him stand at the wrong exit.

Apple's Focus controls let you choose people and apps whose notifications are allowed and configure which calls come through. Check the options on your phone and test the intended contact route together; a quiet group chat need not mean every call is silenced.
